Comments about the web site: I found this a very interesting site.My Great,Great Grandfather was the chief Chef on the Lusitania and unfortunately was one of those who lost his life and whose body was not reclaimed from the sea. We have a Medal that has been passed down through the family and a few Press cuttings, so I find this site very interesting, to gain more knowledge on the background leading to this sinking, although slightly controversial.

Do you have access to or now how I could get a hold of any pictures of the Scythia. I'm told it was a Cunard liner. Also, my mother's maiden name is Butt. There were 3 Butt's on the Titanic that all died. One was the famous Archabald Butt. The other two were crew from Southhampton. Legend has it, we are related to one of them, but I'm not sure which. My grandfather knew I believe, but he died 20 plus years ago. Anyway keep up the great page!

Favorite Liner: ssIndependence - American Hawaii Lines
How I found your page: Excite
Comments about the web site: The ssIndependence and ssConstitution cruised the Hawaiian Islands and were the finest afloat when they were built. *The Last Atlantic Liners by William H. Miller - Conway Maritime Press, London, 1985.
The "Connie has recently sunk, on it's way to be scrapped, but the "Indy" continues to cruise Hawaii, even though it is showing some age. Both were originally owned (built) by the American Export Lines by the Bethlehem Steel Co. around 1948.
This company had, prior to these two ships, four vessals named the Excalibur, Excambion, Exeter, and Exochorda. These four were known as the "four aces".
My question (at last) - Do you have any info on the early history of the American Export Lines? I can only trace it back to the mid fortys, but have a feeling It existed long before that. I have several artifacts from this line (plates, bowls, spoons) that were
last used on the Connie, but had been passed through several ships. Each utensel is embossed with the American Export Line name. I have no idea when and on which ship these utensels were first used and so if I could determing the date of the establishment of the American Export Lines as a Company I would be
on the right track. Unfortunately there now exists a company with the same name and that is all I can find on the net.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Your web is fantastic and I plan to be a regular visitor.
Thank you so much! Jerry Townsend

I went back to see which searh engine it found you on and I lost you.
I was born in 1920 so I remember the name Leviathan. Today, I visited a 90 year old man. He mentioned the Leviathan, but he really meant the Andrea Doria as he said it was sunk off of Cape Cod. When I got home I decide to see what I could find on the internet about both the Leviathan and the Andrea Doria. I have printed the info available on both sites and will bring them to him when I next visit in a couple of weeks.
Your page was very interesting and much more comprehensive than the one I visited about the Andrea Doria.
Thank you,
Jim

Comments about the web site: I would like to compliment you on your excellent site about the
Leviathan. My father was a member of the ship's orchestra during
four or five crossings in the mid 20's and I can recall some of his
stories about the ship. I have a small collection of his photos of
and on the ship that I may be able to scan and send to you if you
would be interested. It is good to see continued interest in the ship.

Comments about the web site: Nicely done on the research and the wonderful photos. A couple of comments. The artist rendition of the remains of the Britannic need to be updated. At last report from the research Bob Ballard did with the NR-1 and other high-tech equipment, the remains of the ship are in a different shape from the original rendition. If you check Nova's webpage on "Titanic's Forgotten Sister" you will see what I mean.
Also, if you have a copy of "Lost Liners" another book filled with fine photos and paintings from famed Titanic artist Ken Marschall, I was wondering if you could help me identify the passenger ship moored in the same picture as the Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Normandie in the upper right corner. What ship is that? Thank you

I sell on e-bay and just found a set of cufflinks and a tie bar picturing the Mauretania. In researching them, I came across your webpage! I am writing to you for two reasons - first, to offer you the set, as you would seem to appreciate them. Pics are located at - www.usmo.com/~eckel/mauretania.JPG and www.usmo.com/~eckel/mauretania2.JPG. I will not be offended if you don't want them, I just thought it would be rude to not offer! Next, if I do list them on e-bay, may I refer people to your site for more information? I found it fascinating and thought others would too, but wanted to get your ok.
Thanks for the informative page, it helped me a lot!
Sincerely,
Nora Eckelkamp
